Abstract

Two collections of Pauropoda (Myriapoda) from soil cores in high-country subalpine and alpine tussock grassland in New Zealand contained 757 specimens representing 11 species, eight of which are recognised as new to science, including two representing new genera. The following new taxa are described here by the first author: Ataktopauropus Scheller gen. n. for Ataktopauropus adaios Scheller sp. n., Decapauropus orestes Scheller sp. n., Decapauropus undulatus Scheller sp. n., Nesopauropus upsilon Scheller sp. n., Pauropus otagoensis Scheller sp. n., Pounamupauropus Scheller gen. n. for Pounamupauropus bartonae Scheller sp. n. and Stylopauropoides vesica Scheller sp. n. (all seven species in family Pauropodidae), and Borneopauropus neozelandicus Scheller sp. n. (family Brachypauropodidae). The genera Nesopauropus Scheller and Borneopauropus Scheller are reported from New Zealand for the first time.
